Aylo Partners With StopNCII.org to Prevent Nonconsensual Spread of Intimate Images

MONTREAL — Aylo has partnered with StopNCII.org, a global initiative to prevent the spread of nonconsensual intimate images (NCII) online.

Websites operated by Aylo, including Pornhub, will join other platforms in helping to identify and remove NCII content.

Developed by Meta and U.K. charity SWGfL, which operates it, StopNCII.org was launched in 2021 and since then “has established itself as a leading solution in the fight against intimate image abuse,” a rep noted. “The partnership will allow 18+ adults experiencing NCII abuse across Aylo platforms to proactively prevent the uploading and sharing of intimate material.”

StopNCII.org uses on-device hashing technology to create a hash, or digital fingerprint, of images or videos, to ensure that the original image or video never leaves the user’s device. The hash, a string of letters and numbers, is then sent to participating platforms. If an uploaded image or video matches the hash, it will be sent for moderation and removed if it meets the criteria required by the platform’s policy. The image or video will then be blocked from any further sharing across participating platforms.

As with all hashing databases, this newly created index increases in efficacy as more platforms join the StopNCII.org initiative.

The partnership, the latest in Aylo’s implementation of its Trust and Safety processes, adds an additional layer of technology to the company’s content moderation protocols. Aylo’s safeguards include mandatory age and identity verification for content upload, moderation practices utilizing technologies and human moderation, and partnerships with nonprofit organizations worldwide.

This partnership also expands on Aylo’s existing relationship with the U.K. Revenge Porn Helpline, with which the company partnered to provide deterrence messaging for anyone seeking potentially illegal, nonconsensual material across its adult platforms.

Revenge Porn Helpline Manager Sophie Mortimer said, “I am very pleased to welcome Aylo toStopNCII.org. We believe in online platforms doing everything they can to better protect their users online. Legal adult sites play a significant part in the digital world and to deny this would mean we are not facing the reality of current online spaces. These sites need online safety support just as much as anywhere else. Adopting StopNCII.org is a positive step towards making these spaces safer.”
